Lichen Impression Handmade Sterling Silver Heart Pendant

Embedded in this Sterling silver heart is the impression of Dartmoor Lichen.
Lichen is a unique organism which grows symbiotically with algae and fungi. It represents the interdependence and interconnectedness of all living being and reminds us of the importance of working together.
Lichen thrives in harsh environments - such as rocky & barren landscapes, where other forms of life struggle to survive.
In many cultures it has been used for its medicinal properties…being used in traditional medicine to treat respiratory issues and infections. As a result, lichen can also symbolise healing and restoration.
Last week I was rehearsing at Jim Causley’s house on Dartmoor. We walked in between practice and I picked up some beautiful lichen. I dried it and used it to imprint sterling silver clay. With everything that lichen represents, it seemed appropriated to impress it onto heart shapes.
A perfect way to represent the resilience of love this Valentine’s Day.
